Windows 10 install did a number on this old printer (6 years old). Had to uninstall and reinstall it several times over the last few months since Windows 10 and this week on the reinstall (with the orig disc that came with the printer AND later tried online download), the installer will hang at 99% for at least 10 minutes before failing and giving an error that says it took too long to execute install and I would need to shut down my computer and reinstall. However, when I use the online driver/software install, it will give the exact same message THEN it will have installed an HP general printer of no name on my system that I can use with this printer EXCEPT it will only print in grayscale/black with no choices to change to color at all.
I am attempting to install on an HP Envy desktop. Using the USB cable (not wireless install) and these errors only occurred since the Windows 10 install.
Thank you in advance!

Windows 10 comes with a driver preinstalled that should get installed when you connect the printer. The installation disc or the download from HP.com should not be needed. Can you give some additional information following the steps below?
Right-Click on the Start Menu and select Control Panel.
Select View Devices and Printers.
Right-Click on your printer and select Printer Properties.
What is the Model Name listed on the General tab?

It lists the model number as unavailable but the model number on the machine itself is: B01SB-0603-04
This printer has always had minor quirks where it would suddenly claim it needed to be connected a network in order to print and this would occur oftentimes in the middle of a print job when the USB cord was attached to the computer, and has always required uninstalls and reinstalls to fix minor glitches ever since we purchased it, but never as often as this since the Windows 10. It has only worked on the "wireless" function for approximately the first month after purchase and it has never worked since. It also has NEVER accepted print jobs from wireless laptops in other rooms in our home or even from the same room. It is finicky.
I am assuming it may just be "tired" at this point. It has been an awesome little workhorse for our small business out of our house.
Also, to clarify, the reason I had to uninstall it completely this last time was not for Windows 10, but that it was printing photos out for a project, some antique photos that were the brown color, some black and white, some old color photos as in 1960's and 1970's polaroids. The printer began printing some broad, darker lines in the middle of the print job across each photo page, in the exact same spot on each page. I had gone to the HP Support site and after following the suggestions there and their not working, I went to my HP Scan Dr.. HPSD told me that what was needed was an updated driver. So I attempted to download that driver and it failed (slow internet connection) and that is where it all went south. The next attempt at downloading same suggested driver/software somehow locked up the printer altogether and it would not print nor would it show in my printers as a printer. After numerous attempts to cycle the printer off and on, unplug power, USB cord, etc. I finally elected to delete the printer and start with a fresh download from the CD and it has never reloaded again.

Can you follow the following video to remove the drivers and software from your system?
We can try to get back to a "good" state and then see if the in-OS driver can get loaded.

Go to the Start Menu Windows button and right-click it.
Select Device Manager.
Check under Print Queues and the Printers entries and right-click->uninstall any entries for your printer.

Can you do the following?
Open Windows Explorer and browse to the c:\Windows\Inf folder.
Look for the file setupapi.dev.log and rename it to setupapi.dev.log.old. (This log will be regenerated when we connect the printer again.)
Open setupapi.dev.log.old in notepad or another text editor.
Search for CP1525 and find the last entries and copy/paste them here. There should be a reference to a *.inf file in a section started with somethnig like the following
