Just installed a Laserjet M603 that is incredibly slow when printing individual print jobs. Our aging 4100 is way faster.

The issue here is that the M603 pauses after each print, before printing the next page, whereas the old printer prints continously.

Running Windows 7 64 bit.

this issue has now been resolved.

There was a driver issue. By replacing the WSD-port installed by default, with a standard TCP/IP port printing raw/9100 the issue was resolved. I.e. HP supplied faulty and non functional software with their printer.

Please note that this issue was present on two different computers, and the issue was also solved on both computers by applying the above "patch".

Thank you for posting this information!  I have spent the better part of a day troubleshooting between Networking, Third-party print software vendor and HP.  I started with HP and they ran a Paper Path test and determined that the issue must be with the network or the other vendor.  I started with them because I was pretty sure the issue was with the printer, but I exhausted the other options and in a moment of dispair, I found this post...applied the new port and things are working beautifully!  Thanks again!

I have a 3 week-old M602dn which has just started giving me the same problem, though only with custom paper sizes.

I use mainly foolscap  size paper (215 x 345 mm, common here in India) and have created a custom paper size in the printer settings at both PC level and printer level to handle this. Of course I am aware that custom paper sizes are handled at a lower ppm than standard paper sizes (I have an ageing 4300dtns printer which also handles foolscap at a slower ppm rate), but there is no reason for the printer to pause 5-10 seconds between successive pages of a multiple-page document. However, this pausing does not ocur if I use a standard paper size such as A4.

For the first 3 weeks, my M602dn printer handled foolscap size paper without pausing. Then suddenly, a few days ago, it starting pausing 5-10 seconds between printing successive pages of a multi-page text document. There was no change in the software or hardware environment, or document content which could have caused this. I have checked the paper path, reinstalled the drivers, tried the Universal Printer Driver, tried printing on blank sheets, but the pausing continues. As the previous poster advised I also checked the port, but I am using the standard TCP/IP port with RAW/9100. The problem is not with the network/router as it happens even with a direct connection to the printer, and on 2 separate PC's one of which runs Win 7 x64, and the other Win XP x32.

I have contacted HP Customer Support and have gone throught the basic troubleshooting steps. They are still working on it. However any pointers from users who are familiar with the M600 series or have experienced and solved this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This is to report that HP sent an engineer across and he solved the problem by setting Trays 2 and 3 to "Any Custom" on the Trays/Tray 2 size and Tray 3 size on the Printer Menu. They were previously set at "Custom", and a Custom paper size of 215 x 345 had been created at the printer.

Although I am now once again able to print FS at 17 ipm, I do suspect that the HP print driver has some instability which is triggering this. This is because I had successfully obtained 17 ipm with the "Custom" setting for 3 weeks before it suddenly gave this issue.

I will keep this thread updated with any related developments.

I spoke too soon! The problem is back after a few hundred copies! Clearly "Any Custom" did not provide a complete solution. The problem appears to be an unstable printer driver.

This printer is about 6 month old. After one month since then , it has started to pause when print multiple pages . The pause is randomly and last 5-10 sec between jobs in the queue. It didnt happen at beggining. Engineer has been called few times and fuse has been changed but still this issue occurs. Last time engineer blame the network for this latency.

Any ideea to fix this, because it is not normal.

I too have the same problem with HP » Manage Trays

HP LaserJet 600 M603HP » Manage Trays

HP LaserJet 600 M603.

When I try to print envelopes there is a pause of 3-5 seconds between envelopes.  The job downloads to the printer in 5 seconds and only prints 2 lines.  It took 5 hours to print 1500 envelopes cosisting of 2 lines

Had a the same problem with an M602 printer.

I disabled the notifications for low Ink on the server and disabled the Bidirectional option.
