When I power up the printer, all the indicator lights either blink (and continue to blink) or ramain on.  The unit does not print.  Any ideas?

Hi @websquad,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums!  A very good day to you.:) Hope you are doing great:) I reviewed the post about the blinking lights on your LaserJet printer. I’ll be delighted to assist you with this. 🙂

Superb troubleshooting and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. It has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

First off, I would require more information regarding this to assist you better.

Is it connected directly to a wall outlet bypassing power strips?

  • For starters, please perform these steps.
  • Bypass power strips.
  • Please perform a power reset. Steps:
  1. Press the Power switch to turn on the printer.
  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  7. Press the Power switch to turn on the printer.
  • If this does not fix the issue, please remove all the cartridges from the printer.
  • Then power off the printer. When you power it back on, please install the first cartridge and power off the printer.
  • Then power it back on and install the second cartridge and power it off again.
  • Repeat the sequence until all the cartridges are installed and check again.

If the lights continue to blink, then it is a hardware issue with the printer and it needs to be replaced or serviced. Please contact HP phone support to get this done by following these steps:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the printer is under warranty, then the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it

for you.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.  🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

All I did was remove the power cord from the surge protector (it was in a "Always On" socket) and plug it into a wall socket, powered it up, and it worked fine.  Then I turned off, unplugged, and pluged it in the surge protector's "Always On" socket, and it worked fine.  If this happens again, I'll likely replace the surge protector (it is several years old).

Thanks for your support.  I know I can always count on HP and Dell (which means, IMHO, you are in good company).

David, thanks for the kind words.  I wrote my first program in '62 in FORTRAN Il.  I wrote my first "spreadsheet" -- also in FORTRAN, in about '67.  My boss hated it. Said I was using a sledge hammer to drive a thumb  tack.  Yikes.  Build my first home computer (that wasn't a loaned machine from IBM) in '77.  Cassette cartridge storage.  You know the ventage.  For a brief time (maybe a few minutes) I felt that I understoon computers -- interrupt arrays, keystroke polling, etc.  But, that only lasted a few minutes. I retired from our state's Governon's Office of Technology in 02, but have been busy since.

Thanks for the help.  Who would'a thunk that a surge protector could cause such mischief.

Bob
