Dell Inspiron 1525
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

All of sudden I cannot print from my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop computer.  Until very recently, I was able to print from this computer.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the HP Laserjet Pro M127 printer a couple of times (followed instuctions during install) on this laptop.  I can print to the printer from another Dell laptop computer, and a Dell desktop computer, but not this laptop.  I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  From that software, I can print using the internal print option, but the software does not print normally.   When I check the devices connected to the to the network, the printer shows up as a connected device.  I am very frustrated and confused why this laptop cannot print to the printer.

@Herb2325,

Thank you for reaching out to the HP Support community!

  • Are the PC and the printer connected to the same network?
  • Do you have any security software or Antivirus installed on your PC? Have you tried disabling it and print?

Let's try these steps:

Step 1: Remove and re-add the printer driver

  • In Windows, search for 'Control Panel' and open 'Programs' or 'Programs and features' and select 'Uninstall a Program'.
  • Select your HP Printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for 'Control Panel' and look for 'View devices and printers'option under 'Hardware and Sound'.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'.
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  • Click on the "Drivers" tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select Ok.
  • Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
  • Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Download the printer driver and install it from this link or manually search for drivers from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/printers.
  • Open the downloaded file, follow onscreen instructions and complete installation
  • Try printing from your PC again and check if you can print.
  • If the issue persists, proceed to the next step

Step 2: Run the ping test

  • Obtain the IP address of your printer.
    • Touch the Wireless icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
  • On your Windows, open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
  • Type cmd and hit ok

  • A command prompt window(black screen) would open up
  • Type "ping the IP address of your printer" for example: "ping 192.168.1.3" and hit the enter key.

  • run the ping test and share the results

Also, try to print from the EWS page of the printer.

  • Open any web browser
  • Type the printer’s IP address into the Internet browser address line, and then press Enter to open the printer EWS.

  • Go to 'Tools'
  • Click on 'Print Self Test Page'
  • Check if that prints

Let me know what happens.

Followup to your assistance.  I totally uninstalled all HP printer files.  I then ran the HP print and scan Dr program.  The progrm found the printer via wifi.  Using the program options, I reinstalled printer drivers using that software.  The Dr program did not print using the first print option, but did print using the internal print option.  Next, I then ran the Windows Printer Diagnostic10 program and the program set the MFP M127fw printer as the default.  (IWhen I selected the MFP M127-128 PCLmS printer using the diagnostic 10 program, it set that as the default and I could not print from program.)

Now I can print documents on my computer, as long as the printer M127fw is selected.  If I select the MFP M127-M128 PCLmS printer, nothing will print.

It appears that the Windows diagnostic software has set the printer driver to a windows driver, rather than the HP driver that was downloaded using the HP software. Some functionality appears may have been lost.

I have noticed that when printing from some programs, the M127fw printer is automatically selected, but other programs automatically select the MFP M127-M128 PCLmS printer.  That is frustrating when printing if you don't carefully interwatch which printer has been automatically selected.  Nothing will print to the PCLmS printer.

I have never has so many problems setting up a printer.  In fact when I originally purchased the printer a few years  ago, I had no problems installing and printing.  Why now??

For my information, what is the difference between the MFP M127fw and MFP M127-M128 PCLmS printers that were installed using the HP Print and Scan Dr sofware?  It appears to me that there are issues with the HP drivers when used with the latest versions of Windows 10.  I would like for the HP install to work correctly, not  having to resort to the Windows Printer Diagnostic 10 for installing and accessing my printer.

I would appreciate any feedback, comments, or assistance that HP can provide.  HP help leaves much to purchaser to solve on their own.  Herb2325

@Herb2325,

PCLmS is one of the printing language used by the printer whereas MFP M127fw, MFP M127-M128 are printer models.

I am not sure how the PCLmS drivers got installed.

If you can print by selecting the HP M127fw printer, you can delete the other printer from the devices and printers list to avoid ambiguity.

Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Right Click on the printer MFP M127-M128 > Remove device

Again, right click on MFP M127fw printer and set it as a default device, so that it becomes the default printer for all applications when you are printing and you need not select the printer every time to print.
