I already figured out myself how to solve this problem, but I thought I'll share it so others can find it.

I have an HP LaserJet MFP M130nw, but I guess similar printers may have the same issue.

I configured an admin password. I chose a secure and long password. However afterwards I couldn't log in with it. After some trying around I figured out that it seems the password got truncated. If I chose the first 16 chars of my long password and try to log in with them it worked.

If others are accidentally locked out by this I hope this helps.

I hope HP representatives read this and make sure this is fixed. Restricting password lengths is generally a bad practice, but silently cutting a password definitely shouldn't happen.
