Laserjet P1102w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After, I believe, a Microsoft Windows 10 update a few months ago I've lost the duplex print option on printer my selection window for the specified printer (. Laserjet P1102w)  I've been able to do manual duplex printing on this printer since I bought it probably 5 years ago.  In addition when I down load a new driver in attempting to fix the problem I'm able to download the software from HP. I find the file and click on it to execute. And that's it !! It runs and I never get any kind of message to run the download, install the driver.,.....nothing!! It just ends. And of course doesn't remedy the lost duplex print problem. Hope some one can help.  With either or both problems.

BTW I also have a Canon Multi function printer that does auto duplex and I've lost the duplex print option for that one as well.

Hi @CT2340

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try these steps -

Step 1 HP Print and Scan Doctor -

Click on this link to download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Step 2 Re-install the printer drivers -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

14. Download and install the software and drivers from here.

15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

First off thanks for your help.  Now...…...everything basically works ok in your instructions down to Step 14 which is where I continue to have difficulty even before your response to my problem. I download the software from HP. Click on the file to execute.  I get a bar graph running that say extracting. When the bar reaches 100 % the program ends and THATS IT!!!!  There never appear any instructions to follow. Zip, zero, nada. The road just ends there!!!  So I'm right back to square one.

Try these steps -

1) Right-click on the Start or the Windows icon and open run.

2) In the Run box, type %temp% and hit on "Ok". This will open the "Temp" folder.

3) Select "Date Modified" to "Today" and look for a 7z.... folder.

4) Open the folder and look for a .msi file.

5) Right click on it to install.

Try running the downloaded file in compatibility mode. Once the driver is downloaded, right click on the download in the browser and then click on "Show in folder". Right click on "Properties" and then click on the "Compatibility" tab. Select, "Run this compatibility mode for:" - Windows Vista. Also, check the box for "Run this program as an administrator".

Let me know.

It wasn't clear to me how these two procedures were related so I treated them as 2 separate attempts to solve the problem.

I the first set of steps all went well until using the .msi file.  There was none in the 7z.... folder

In the second approach I followed all the steps but then when I ran the program all it did was extract again and then just ended. No further action or instructions or messages.

Do you have an anti-virus software installed on the computer?

Try built-in drivers - HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

OK I don't know what was supposed to happen here.  After entering the commands in step 2 some kind of procedure began running showing a % of completion I imagine. Took about 10 minutes. Then ended and I was not able to key in the command in Step 3 because no keyboard input was possible. At that point I just click on the 'X' and ended the command prompt screen.  I don't know what I was supposed to do next if anything. I'm kind of lost here at this point???

Have you tried installing the printer again? If you haven't, could you please try that and let me know the outcome.
