I am trying to replace my color toners -- yellow, cyan and magenta. After replacing the yellow toner, printer validated the toner to be original and proceeded to initializing, but never finished. It is stucked in initializing mode even after turning it off and on again. Cannot proceed to change the other toners, nor can I print any printer status report. For your help/assistance please. Thanks

Hi @dnavarro

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Here are the steps you can follow to resolve the issue with your LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw being stuck in initializing mode after replacing the yellow toner:

Power Reset

  • Turn the printer off.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or extension cords).
  • Turn the printer back on and check if it completes initialization.

Reseat the Toner Cartridge

  • Open the front door and carefully remove the yellow toner cartridge.
  • Inspect the cartridge contacts and the inside of the printer for any packing material, tape, or debris.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it is seated correctly.
  • Close the front door and allow the printer to attempt initialization again.

Check All Cartridges

  • If the printer remains stuck, remove all four cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, yellow).
  • Inspect each cartridge for damage or protective tape that may not have been removed.
  • Reinstall all cartridges one by one, ensuring they are properly seated.

Update Firmware

  • On a Windows PC, connect the printer via USB or network.
  • Open the HP App and check for available firmware updates.
  • Install the latest firmware to ensure the printer can properly validate and initialize cartridges.

Test Without Color Cartridges

  • Remove the yellow, cyan, and magenta cartridges, leaving only the black cartridge installed.
  • Power on the printer and see if it bypasses initialization.
  • If successful, reinstall the color cartridges one at a time to identify if a specific cartridge is causing the issue.

These steps should help the printer move past the initialization loop. If the issue persists after completing them, it indicates a deeper hardware or firmware fault that will require service.

Hi, I tried the recommended solutions but my unit still did not respond as expected, instead, it continued to be in the initializing mode. Any other suggestions? Thanks
