I have the M252DW on the network and print via wifi. I do not print often.
The HP LaserJet Service is causing my CPU to spike really high when I am not using it. It is also has high network usage and again I am not using it.
Why is it doing it and how do I get it to stop?
I have stopped the service in my task manager, and was able to print, so I do not understand why this service is even running.
Windows 10 Home v1903
Processor: Intel i7-4770 3.40 GHz quad core
Memory 16GB

Thank you for the detailed response.
Print service helps the communication to take place between the printer and the PC. It is a medium of communication.
If this service is stopped, the communication between the PC and the printer will be interrupted.
There are packets of data transferred between the printer and the PC all the time if both the devices are ON. However, the CPU should not be stressed by this.
Did you get any errors when you ran HP Print and Scan Doctor?
Keep me posted for further assistance.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I recommend you update the printer firmware following the steps in the below article and check if it helps.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02919168
If you continue facing the issue, then root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and test.
Here is how it is done.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the PC
14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi The_Fossette, thanks for your response.
I don't want to do a firmware update to the printer when there is nothing wrong with the printer.
The issue is with the HP Laser Jet Service running on my computer. I stopped the service and put it in manual mode. I am still able to print wirelessly to the printer without an issue.
Questions:
- What exactly does the service do?
- Why would it spike the CPU when I am not interacting with the printer?
- Why should I allow this service to run on my computer?

I cannot respond to the DM -- first it states I entered invalid HTML (I just typed text no HTML, I even deleted the text and pasted in a text editor to ensure there was no HTML). It then stated that I reached the limit of messages I could send, so here is the message:
Thanks for your eMail
I posted a response to the board. I am not having a problem with the printer, I am having a problem with the service on my computer.
I did upgrade the Scan and Doctor software, turned the HP LaserJet Service back on and I uninstalled the printer software on my computer and installed HP_LaserJet_M252_Full_Software_and_Drivers_15309.exe
However, I still need to know what the HP LaserJet Service does and why it would spike the CPU when I am not interacting with the printer.
When that question is answered I will accept it as an answer.

Hi Kumar,
HP Print and Scan Doctor recommended that I update the printer software, so it uninstalled it and I installed the latest version of the complete software HP_LaserJet_M252_Full_Software_and_Drivers_15309.exe
I turned the service back on and set it to start automatically delayed start. I have not noticed a spike in my CPU and the printer is working fine.
Thanks for yours and your colleagues' support.
