Color LaserJet Pro M254dw
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

For the past year I have consistently had problems with my Color LaserJetPro M254dw wireless printer.  It will not wake up when I send a print command from my MacBook Air (OS X 10.11.1).  I frequently have to turn off the printer and turn it back on.  I also have to resend the print command again.  This is VERY frustrating.  Any help would be appreciated.

(BTW, any help with resetting my lost printer password would also be equally appreciated.)

Hi @Pianistfrank

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

To better assist you -

1) Are you using a dual band router? Or, is there an extender for connectivity?

2) Do you have an anti-virus software installed on the Macbook?

3) How far away is the printer from the router?

While you respond to that, ensure your printer and Macbook are connected to the same network.

Try rebooting the devices -

1) Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer/ mobile devices.
2) Wait for 60 seconds.
3) Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
4) Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
5) Turn on the computer/ mobile devices.

Try disabling the auto-off features -

1) From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe until the Setup menu displays. Touch the Setup icon to open the menu.
2) Open the following menus:
● System Setup
● Energy Settings
● Sleep/Auto Off After

Set the Sleep mode setting to Max or Off.

Try updating the printer's firmware. Download and install the firmware for Mac OS X 10.11 version from this link

Also, try updating your router's firmware.

Can you send us a picture of the screen asking you to enter the password?

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
