After a year using non original HP cartridges, this morning the printer showed the message "supply memory error". Not sure if printer firmware was updated, but anyway I downgraded to 20150716 with no luck, the issue still persists.

All cartridges are marked as "unknown" even after installing one original HP empty cartridge I still own.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Solved. Problem was a defective cartridge. After replacing it, printer is working again.

Be aware that error message is a little confusing. You can see text "Memory supply error" and, at bottom, a picture of all cartridges showing a question mark. This can make you think that all cartridges are wrong at the same time (very strange), or more likely, the printer is wrong. Actually, only the color of the big cartridge picture is saying wich cartrigde is faulty.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.

I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Restart the printer.

Hello @Raj1788, I've followed your instructions but unfortunately the issue is not solved.

The printer was in 20150716 firmware, but anyway I downloaded and installed it again, following strictly your instructions, with no results.

Can you give me any advice?

Thank you very much!

@plouprou

Thanks for the reply,

I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below:

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-color-laserjet-pro-mfp-m277-series/708... to download and install the drivers.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Hello @Raj1788, I deleted and re-installed the driver following your instructions, but situation remains the same, with printer saying "supply memory error" at start up.

I must remark that copy or scanner functions, that don't need a PC to work, aren't working too, so I suspected that changing the PC driver won't help, but I did it anyway.

Thank you again.

I am having exactly the same problem with the MFP M277dw supply memory error and have successfully downgraded the firmware but still get the error. Can you help me publically or by private email? I appreciate your help.

Hello @drdaniel60, since my last post, I realized that "supply memory error" had a picture of the problematic cartridge colour. No "10.1000x" text error signaling the problematic cartrigde (as the printer help says) but a picture.

In my case, the picture was always magenta colour, so I replaced the magenta cartridge with a spent black hp original cartridge I had stored. Then the printer displayed "wrong colour cartridge" error, so I was pretty sure that the printer was able to read the magenta cartridge chip and that problem should be in the magenta cartridge, not the printer.

I'm waiting to receive a new magenta cartridge to confirm this.

I'll keep you informed.
