M280nw
Microsoft Windows Server 2016

We're a big retailer and last year we've installed 300 HP MFP 181fw printers in our local shops. Since these had to be connected to a hidden SSID our engineers installed them one by one with a laptop and the HP software.

We now have to replace all of them for a model which *is* capable of scanning-to-email. According to the HP specs at that time the MFP 181fw should be capable of doing that, but as it turns out it does not as we and other people on the internet have found out.

We want to replace them for one of these models: M280nw/M281fdn/M281fdw since these *do* support that function.

According to the PDF "HP Web Jetadmin 10.4 Supported Devices" (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01840759) the previous models MFP M277n and M277dw are supported by HP Web Jetadmin. Does this automatically mean that M280nw/M281fdn/M281fdw are also supported meaning we can remotely push a config file to these printers including SSID info and such?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Generally, this doesn't automatically means that a replacing model will also be supported.

Your printer should be supported by WJA however according to your printer user guide, see page 90:

Also, WJA release notes hint it is supported too on page 72:

Hope that helps,

Thanks, I did see that WJA was mentioned in that printer user guide, but was not sure if this was there intentional or by mistake. But you linking me the late breaking news of WJA 10.4 SR6 where they mention HP Color LaserJet MFP M278-M281 should be a clear indication that these models are supported by WJA.

Edit: since we're not used to using WJA is it even possible to upload a configuration with hidden SSID info to these printers (off course they have to be connected with a network cable in advance).
