HP M553dn
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

This printer is brand new. The auto duplex does not work. I have removed the software that came with the printer and installed the latest software and drivers. The software driver says duplex available from Printer Properties. Printer preferences states duplex available and set to Yes flip over. I have used the USB to port a PRN file from a USB stick with known and reliable pcl6 statements and the duplex does not work. I have used several programs to port reliable PRN files to the printer but with no response. I now wonder if the OS needs some speciific update as it is vanilla Windows 7 (1)  and  is not connected to the internet for security reasons or whether the printer has some physical defect. The HP Support Assistant fails when executed, hence my suspicion. Any help suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you try printing duplex with Universal print driver PCL 6 from  HP ?

Thank you for your response.

I completely removed the original M553dn software and installed the UPD for Windows 7 using the USB connection. The UPD printer was created and the printer software loaded. Whilst the printer works, the only duplex settings I now have is manual duplex. That appears to work OK through tray 1.  I changed the printer properties duplex unit setting from not installed to installed and the duplex setting for manual disappeared and now could be set to Yes Flip Over. Some test pages failed to print in duplex inspite of the correct property settings. I can now send PRN files direct to the printer from an application but the PCL duplex settings are ignored. According to the printer specifics, the inf section is hpcu2156.gpd. Hope this helps.
