HP M553
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP M553, Less than 2 years old, has started performing a full calibration cycle pretty much every time we print anything, as soon as the printing is completed.  Originally, it only did so when using the tray 1, the side feed tray, but now does so when using the main paper tray (#2) as well.  Prints fine, and has no alignment issues or anything, as far as print quality goes, so I'm not sure what's up.

Hi I would like to assist to the best of my ability to solve your problem.I hope the information i supply will be of help.

I think this machine has a dirty sensor problem. There are sensors looking onto the ITB belt at the colour registration and quality of the prints. If these sensors become dirty the machine will try to calibrate to compensate for the quality of the prints.I would suggest to have the machine serviced and calibrated.I will look out for this post.

Hi LIBTechGuy,

As @Copier-Pro said, your color plane registration (CPR) sensors are dirty of not working properly.

Print or view the event log and look for 54.X.Y errors. If any, then that's why the printer tries to calibrate so often and without success.

Remove the ITB (Intermediate Transfer Belt), open the front door and clean the CPR sensors of any dust, dirt or spilled toner. Clean them with a toner vacuum or toner wipes (magnetic) for better results.

Also sometimes the calibration pattern in the firmware gets corrupted which can be restored by formatting the disk and installing the latest firmware.

I hope some of these may help,

Cheers!
