MFP Color Laser Printers (M280nw + M281fdn) -- Do they stop working if color cartridges is empty?

Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying one of these MFP color laser printers: M280nw or M281fdn.

Would like to clarify a basic question in advance. It applies to both printers:

If one (or more) of the color toner cartridges is empty, can I still continue printing in black and white? Also, can I still continue to scan/save documents to pdf? Or will the printers refuse to work (e.g. printing and scanning) until I have replaced the empty color cartridge(s) by new ones?

Background: It may sound freakingly odd, but I experienced such "device behavior" once, some 10 years ago, with a HP OfficeJet Printer. I don't want to see again such hidden "built-in Sales force features", using HP laser printers...

Thank you for visiting HP Support Forum,

If one or more color toner cartridge is empty or not installed in printer . it will not print until  you installed or replace with  new one.

Regarding scanning from software, you can still continue to scan document and save document to pdf.

I suspected things to be so.

This is anti-ecological (polluting), from top to bottom.

And it is customer-unfriendly, too.
