HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw
macOS 15.0 Sequoia

For some reason, my printer is now stuck in the boot process displaying the "Initializing" message.  I've tried turning it off and on several times with no success.  Any ideas?

Hi FurryNewYorker

When an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw gets stuck on "Initializing," it indicates a hardware, power, or firmware boot sequence stall before the printer can load its operating system. Since simple power toggles haven't worked, run through these targeted diagnostic procedures starting from the least invasive solution.

1.Perform a Hard Power Reset:
  1. Turn the printer on if it isn't already.

  2. With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord directly from the back of the device.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet or surge protector.

  4. Wait at least 60 seconds to completely drain stored electrical energy from the capacitors.

  5. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (bypass any extension cords or surge protectors, as insufficient voltage can stall boot-up).

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer and turn it on.

Verification: Check if the touchscreen progresses past the "Initializing" screen to the main Home display.

2.Disconnect Network and Data Connections:
  1. Turn the printer off.

  2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable or USB cable from the back of the printer.

  3. If connected to Wi-Fi, temporarily turn off your Wi-Fi router so the printer cannot detect a wireless network during boot.

  4. Turn the printer back on with zero connectivity cables attached.

Verification: If the printer boots to the Home screen normally without network connections, a corrupt print job stuck in macOS Sequoia's print queue or a network connection issue was causing the loop.

3.Perform a NVRAM / Super NVRAM Reset:
  1. Turn off the printer.

  2. Press and hold the bottom-right quadrant of the touchscreen with your thumb.

  3. While holding that area of the touchscreen, press the power button to turn the printer on.

  4. Continue holding the screen until the display shows "Permanent Storage Init" or "NVRAM Init".

  5. Release your thumb.

Verification: The printer will perform a full reset and restart. If successful, it will prompt you to set your language and location on screen.

I hope the above is helpful
