I've scanned the message here for a solution.
I've got a low-time M227dw printer (about 2100 prints).
I've got vertical lines in the output now.
Several attempts to run the cleaning cycle don't seem to do anything to clean-up these bad prints.

Good Day. Thank you for reaching out to the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Remarkable diagnosis and good analysis of the issue. It is amply appreciated.
Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:
- Did this happen after a recent power outage or surge?
- Did you make photocopies directly from the printer and check again?
I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-color-laserjet-pro-mfp-m277-series/7089945/model/7089949/doc... by following instructions from the section “Step 5: Reset the printer
- Then make 2 photocopies directly from the printer without any communication from the computer and check if the vertical lines exist in these copies.
If they do then the issue could be hardware related. From this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-color-laserjet-pro-mfp-m277-series/7089945/model/7089949/doc... (HP Color LaserJet Pro M252, M274, M277 Printers - Fixing Poor Print Quality) perform these steps:
- Follow directions from solution 1 to solution 6 and replace any faulty toners. This should fix the issue. If it does not then the printer could be faulty and needs to be replaced.
- I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

I read your response. Thanks for the reply. Your time and efforts are immensely appreciated. You need to scroll down to get to step 5 for the hard reset.
I will send you the steps:
Step 5: Reset the printer
Sometimes an error persists even though there is no paper feed issue.
-
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
-
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
-
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
-
Wait at least 60 seconds.
-
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
-
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
-
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Now check if the issue gets fixed by following the other steps from my previous post and links.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
