Microsoft Windows 11

Bought the MFP3302, initially it was brilliant then it wouldn't work on my laptop after an update - bought new laptop and it seemed okay for 2 pages and now chops bottom of page off and will only print in monochrome.

Hello @Krunny, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

We understand how frustrating this is, especially after the printer worked initially and the problem appeared after a laptop update and then again on the new laptop.

Because the printer is now printing only in monochrome and cutting off the bottom of the page, the issue is most likely related to the Windows printer driver or print settings rather than the printer hardware. On a new Windows 11 installation, the printer can sometimes be configured with a generic or incorrect driver.

Fix printing in black and white only

First, check whether Windows is forcing the printer to use grayscale.

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3302.
  3. Open Printing preferences.
  4. Look for the Color, Paper/Quality, or similar tab.
  5. Make sure Print in Grayscale or Black & White is disabled.
  6. Select Color if that option is available.
  7. Click Apply and OK, then print a test page.

Also check the application's print settings. For example, Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat can have their own grayscale/monochrome option that overrides the printer's default settings.

Fix the bottom of the page being cut off

The page cutoff is commonly caused by a mismatch between the paper size selected in Windows and the paper actually loaded in the printer.

  1. Check the paper loaded in the printer. For example, confirm whether it is A4 or Letter.
  2. Open the document's Print dialog.
  3. Set Paper Size to exactly match the paper in the printer.
  4. Check the printer's Printing Preferences and make sure the same paper size is selected.
  5. Check the application's scaling settings. Try Actual Size/100% or Fit to Printable Area, depending on the document.
  6. Print another test page.

A4 and Letter paper have different dimensions, so selecting the wrong size can cause content near the bottom edge to be pushed outside the printer's printable area.

If both problems started after the Windows update

If changing the settings does not resolve the issue, we recommend removing the MFP 3302 from Windows and reinstalling it using the HP printer software/driver rather than relying on a generic Windows driver. A corrupted or incomplete driver installation can cause both incorrect color options and paper-layout problems.

After reinstalling the printer, test with a simple color document containing text and images. If that prints correctly, the issue was most likely with the Windows printer configuration rather than the printer itself.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
