MacBook reads laserjet P1606dn printer as "disk unreadable"

Are you connecting via USB? If so, some HP printers, and I am not sure if this includes the 1606 were shipped with an easy install system embedded in them that was read like a disk. The system was not that successful and the feature was disabled on newer firmware updates. I would try connecting via network and log into the embedded web server and turn the feature off if you are going to use USB.
