I'm curious. I have the exact same Magenta cartridge problem too. Buy new one, no difference - almost no color at all.

I see this thread goes back several years, and yet I haven't seen one single reply from an HP Technician. Does this mean they don't monitor the forums at all? Or does it mean the don't have an answer and are too scared ot post? I just find it odd that they haven't bothered to make a single suggestion in what appears to be over 4 years....

I understand that you have completed the basic troubleshooting for this issue related to print quality or image formation.

If not the toner cartridge then it must be caused due to hardware defect (generally the image transfer belt & laser scanner)

This needs to be troubleshooted further with the help of a service tech.

I have an HP Color LaserJet 2605dn. All 4 colors (black, magenta, yellow, cyan) are showing as over 70% full. When I run a Supplies Status Report the bar for the Magenta cartridge only shows a very, very faint red color. I purchased and installed a new Magenta cartridge, rerunning Calibration, but there is no difference. When I try to print there is only a ghost of magenta/red in the copies.

I'm not a technician, but I did receive a solution to this problem from a blog two days ago that no longer appears on this forum so that I can thank him. But, I will share what I know about the sollution to this magenta problem:

The problem is definitely not in the toner cartridge. The problem lies inside the printer where the lenses and mnirrors are located. Each one is associated with one of the color cartridges that are stacked vertically in the printer. Now, the lowest cartridge is the magenta one, and over time dust will settle on the lowest mirror so that it will malfunction resulting in magenta toner going where it shouldn't or printing only faintly. The solution offered was to clean the mirrors and lenses. That sounds simple, but it is not easy to get to for an amateur like me. Nevertheless, with the help of a couple videos on youtube that I googled identifying the printer and the problem, I was able to disassemble , clean the dusty mirrors, and reassemble the printer parts. It took me about 7 hours to do all of this, but when I plugged in the printer and ran a test print with a result that was a beautiful, perfect result, it was all worth it. Plus it saved me about $200 of otherwise useless toner cartridges. If I had it to do again, I'd find a competent technician, who could do the job in less than two hours, if he knew what to look for.

This problem also affects the color LaserJet 2600 and you have to remove the laser scanner assembly and clean the Optics on it to resolve the issue.

You can find many more post referencing the 2600 models and many more of them were sold.
