Was experiencing some streaking on prints so I took out the drum/toner cartridge for inspection. My question is whether the drum and toner units can be separated, and perhaps cleaned. Or if the unit should simply be replaced. There is a small mountain of toner visible near the drum when viewed from the underside of the cartridge. Pic: https://imgur.com/4lY8POu

The picture shows a non-genuine toner cartridge, you can temporarily clean it, but it will happen again. If you use an original toner chance to have that toner dust buildup is minimum. If you decide to clean it take care not to inhale toner dust.

Thanks! How would you recommend I clean it? Is some amount of build-up normal there?

Any build-up there indicates a failure one of the seals in the cartridge.  Time for replacement of cartridge.
