HP Printer – Three Lights On and Not Printing Hello HP Support, I have an HP printer that is not working properly. When I turn it on, three indicator lights stay on and the printer does not print. I have already checked for paper jams and removed and reinstalled the cartridges, but the problem is still there. Printer model: Laser jet pro mfp M26a Please help me with troubleshooting or let me know what I should do next. Thank you very much.

Hi @Murtaza13,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out. When your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M26a shows three lights on and does not print, it usually indicates a hardware or firmware error state. Here’s the troubleshooting process:

Step 1: Identify the Lights

On the M26a, the three lights typically include:

  • Attention Light
  • Ready Light
  • Toner Light

If all three are solid, the printer is in an error condition.

Step 2: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  5. Turn the printer on and check if the lights are clear.

Step 3: Check for Paper or Cartridge Issues

  • Remove the toner cartridge and inspect for damage or packing material.
  • Reinstall the cartridge firmly.
  • Ensure there is no paper jam in the input/output tray or inside the printer.

Step 4: Update Firmware

Step 5: Restore Factory Defaults

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Press and hold the Cancel + Start Copy buttons together for 10 seconds.
  • This resets the printer to default settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
