I've had my Color Laserjet for a few years now and up until a week ago I had no idea that there was a 126A Imaging Drum replacement. What does this drum do and how do I know if I need to replace mine? I've searched this forum for previous answers but oddly there seems to be a lot of questions with few answers. Anyone know?

This printer is a little different than most other HP Laserjets. The more common setup is that there is a drum for each color. This printer uses one drum and rotates the cartridges to apply each color to the drum and then the image is transferred to the paper. You should either get a warning to replace, if you have not received a message and your print quality is acceptable then just keep printing.
