OK, printing sets of training material, dual sided, B&W (grayscale), on 24lb white 3-hole punched paper.  Printer is direct plugged to wall outlet.  Printer  is 10 inches from wall, open air on 2 sides, and no obsticles on other, sitting on a clean wooden table.  Office temp is 76F.

Prints between 50-60 sides (25-30 two sided pages), then goes into Cooling down... for 2-3 minutes it seems.  When it comes out of cool down it will print about 8-10 sides, then go into cool down again... for 2-3 minutes.  This cycle repeats until the job is done.  This job, 275 printed sides... total time 44 minutes 39 secconds.  A b&w print speed of 6 sides per minute.

This is rediculous on a printer rated for 22 pages b&w per minute or 10 double-sided per minute.

I've read several threads, and there seems to be some 'secret' fix only available via private mail.

PLEASE HELP HP.

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Power resetting the printer and updating the printer firmware may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your toner cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer

5) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the toner cartridges.

6) Download and update the printer firmware from here.

Let me know how it goes!

OK, did as instructed.  Then printed a dual sided document, 5 printed pages (3 sheets), 64 copies.  No stops for cooling!... so 320  printed sides in 28.5 minutes.

For time analysis the way the duplexer works I'm going to guess that really counts for 6 printed sides each as it processes the blank last page through the feed just like two sides.  So timing is 6 X 64 = 384 sides in 28.5 minutes = 13.47 pages/minute in duplex mode.  I'm OK with that.

I have the same problem and followed the 6 steps to solve it. But the link for update the firmware is not in action.

I have the same problem--printing many copies of a 2 sided document of several pages each. Prints about 5 duplex pages then goes into cool down mode. Link for firmware update is broken.
