Mono MFP M130a printer scanner
iOS 10 - 10.3.3

New printer. Downloaded the software .works fine with the laptop. How do I activate the airprint. Neither my i pad or i phone can find it. Spec says it does have airprint. There is no mention of wifi so I guess it cannot have this facility, and there is no pairing button I can see.

You printed doesn't have wireless and you need to have both a printer and your smart device on the same wireless network.

I feel I must contradict you. In both the on line description and the owner's manual air print is clearly described:

If you don’t have a network, that’s no problem with this printer as you can easily print from a laptop or a printer using a USB cable. Print up to 22 pages per minute, with first pages ready in as fast as 7.3 seconds. This printer also helps you to save energy with the HP Auto on/ auto off technology. Choose HP printers and never be let down with bad prints again.

Make mobile printing simple.Print from iPhone and iPad with AirPrint®, which automatically scales jobs to the correct paper size.

Then it must be the truth. Good luck making your nonwireless printer to print with AirPrint that is not supported.

yea it saying that if you dont have a network you can connect directly with a USB cable , but your phone is not connected via USB cable. You would at least need a wireless router even if it was wired to the machine so your phone can see the printer.

Hi,

the printer support AirPrint as listed

Mac OS Computers support AirPrint using a network or a USB connection, however mobile devices (iOS) only support AirPrint using a network connection as clearly listed by both Apple:

* AirPrint works with Wi-Fi or wired network connections. AirPrint devices connected to the USB port of an Apple AirPort Base Station or AirPort Time Capsule, or to your computer using Bluetooth connection, can’t use AirPrint.

Unfortunately, the HP MFP M130a model does NOT support AirPrint as listed by it's specs:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05228178

Look under the Mobile Printing Capability section.

However these HP models all support AirPrint:

MFP M130fn  https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05228182

MFP M130fw  https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05228184

MFP M130nw  https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05228179

Look under the Mobile Printing Capability section.

The manual you have may cover all models, but careful reading may show only certain models support that option.

Hope this clears things up.

@AlS77,

Its HP Store specifications do list AirPrint as supported (which is a supported feature for Mac OS computers with a USB connection too indeed):

It seems different HP sites report different specs. However, since to use AirPrint direct to a printer requires a printer with wireless or network capability, the M130a cannot support AirPrint directly since it has neither wireless or network compatibility. You can do a workaround to attach and share it with a wireless network to achieve AirPrint functionality using it's USB connection, but it cannot support AirPrint as a stand-alone device, which I believe the initial question is referring.

Here's an HP support site about AirPrint

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02623193

A connection to the printer

1) Your printer and the iOS device must be on the same local network or your printer must support Wi-Fi Direct or HP wireless direct. Try to print. If a No AirPrint printers found message displays, continue to the next step to connect the printer.

2) The iOS device and printer must be connected through a wireless network or through Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct. If your printer is connected to your computer using a USB cable, then you must use Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct.
