HP LaserJet P1102w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

We recently replace our Spectrum mode/router with an arris modem (SURFboard SB6190) and eero router (B010001) Service is awesome but I have an older printer (HP LaserJet P1102w) that is not connecting wirelessly.

The printer does not have a WPS button and there is no LCD panel on it. There is no ethernet port.

When I tried to configure it via USB using my laptop and power-cycled the printer and router (even the printer and modem), I noticed three changes printed on the device configuration sheet: the 802.1b/g wireless went from infrastructure to ad hoc communication mode, it changed from the previous Spectrum SSID to HP775E93 and it went from WPA/WPA2 to no authentication. Is ad hoc okay (irrelevant)? How do I get from the mystery SSID to our SSID? Is our network not secured?

I read that the eero router does not support WPS, only WPA2 (AES-based). Could that be my problem? (I am really in territory I don’t know about here… Would my printer possibly only support WPS? How can I find out?

Also, the eero supports 2.4 and 5 GHz automatically (simultaneously?). Am I right in assuming that is not an issue with my older printer?

I gues you see a pattern: I don’t know how to “get into” my printer to find out stuff!

The printer prints when the 2.0 usb/printer cord is connected to my laptop. I did make sure to uncheck the “Print Offline” box.

When I contacted HP, I was told to uninstall all the software from the DVD that came with it and all the updates and drivers. I did. The DVD would not self-install and when I manually opened and clicked on the ProductInst64 file I got an error box (…inappropriate invocation…) I think I am now missing the Install Wizard set up for us tech dummies!  I reinstalled the recommended updates and drivers from HP. Still no luck. The wireless version of my printer is no longer listed in the Windows (10 Home 1803 version) Printers and Scanners section.

I also cannot figure out how to reset the printer to factory defaults. I was hoping reinstalling it would do that. However, since the DVD would not install, I have no Install Wizard…

I tried working through HP’s Print and Scan Doctor and Microsoft’s troubleshooting application, but they both ended with stating that nothing is wrong. I sent an email to eero just a few minutes ago and realize they need a little time to respond…

One last question: My husband set up the router and modem using his laptop. I just connected and jumped on to the network later. That would not be causing my present problem, would it?

Now I am kinda lost. It seems to me I just need to get the printer to find our new network/SSID but maybe I am completely wrong…  Any advice or tips?

Eternally grateful,

Cindi

Hi,

Please unplug the USB and open the Control Panel, then select Devices and Printers and remove any listed instance of your HP printer.

Next, reset the wireless settings of your printer as following:

  1. Turn the product off.
  2. Press and hold both the wireless and the cancel buttons, and then turn the product on
  3. Hold the buttons until all the lights blink in unison, and then release both buttons.

Next launch the installation using the following path:

C:\LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution\HpSetup.exe

Select the P1100w printer upon installing and follow the steps on screen to connect the printer wirelessly.
