Pavillion
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Had to get a new router because the old one died. Purchased a NetGear Nighthawk , Model #R6400. My Laserjet Pro M130nw says that it is wireless but when I try to scan a document with HPScan on my HP Pavillion laptop it says Unable to Communicate with the Scanner. I need to scan documents for work and can't. All was well until the router died so what am I not doing in the setup process? Ran a wireless Test Report and the only No was, Other Networks Detected Matching Your Network Name. Any ideas? Several hours later and all I have to show for it is a wireless light that is staying on.

@Confused897,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Are you having issues only while scanning or even while printing?

Have you tried to run HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Are you able to print from other devices?

The wireless connection does not work after moving the wireless router or printer

1. Make sure that the router or printer connects to the same network that your computer connects to.

2. Print a configuration page.

3. Compare the service set identifier (SSID) on the configuration page to the SSID in the printer configuration for the computer.

4. If the numbers are not the same, the devices are not connecting to the same network. Reconfigure the wireless setup for the printer.

Let’s start by performing a network power drain. Follow the steps below:

Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.

Wait for 2-3 minutes.

Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.

Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.

Then turn on the PC and other devices.

If you are facing any issue while using the printer then try using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to this link: HP Printers - Using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)  to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you try to restore the printer to the network defaults and then run the wireless setup to connect the printer back to network.

For more details on how to restore the printer to network defaults, please go through the User guide - Chapter 9. Solve problems - Restore the factory-set defaults - Page number 131 & 132.

Uninstall the printer from the root level and then reinstall it by following the steps below:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
