My Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M283fdw always had an option for cardstock printing. Now the option is not available for some reason (it disappeared). If I print on cardstock it smears. I tried all other paper settings to see if any of them were slow enough to prevent the smears on the cardstock but nothing works. Any suggestions?

Hi @Becca1974,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are experiencing issues with cardstock printing, or the cardstock option has disappeared on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw. There are a few steps and considerations you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Driver Updates: Sometimes, driver updates can impact the availability of certain printing options. Check if you have the latest version of the printer driver installed. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Manual Duplexing: If your printer supports manual duplexing, ensure this feature is correctly set up. Sometimes, manual duplexing settings can impact paper handling options, including cardstock. Check the device settings tab in the printer properties.

Print Quality Settings: To avoid smearing when printing on cardstock, explore adjusting the print quality settings. You might need to lower the temperature or adjust the ink settings in your printer properties to better accommodate the thicker cardstock.

Loading Media Properly: Ensure you are loading the cardstock correctly into the input tray and adjusting the media guides accordingly. This helps prevent skewing and ensures that the printer feeds the media smoothly.

Paper Type Settings: When the default cardstock option is unavailable, select another heavy paper type setting if possible (such as Heavy Rough or Mid-Weight Glossy) and see if that helps in achieving the desired print output.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
