Hi @ESAMSHELTON

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is displaying a "Failed Printhead" message. This error usually indicates that the printer is unable to communicate properly with the printhead, which may be caused by cartridge issues, dirty electrical contacts, or a printhead failure. Please follow the steps below:

Restart the Printer

  • Leave the printer powered ON.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on and check if the error clears.

Remove and Reinstall the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Wait for the carriage to move to the center and become idle.
  • Remove all four ink cartridges.
  • Inspect the cartridges for:
  • Damaged electrical contacts.
  • Protective tape that may not have been removed.
  • Ink leakage.
  • Set the cartridges aside with the nozzles facing upward.

Remove and Reseat the Printhead

  • Lift the gray latch on the carriage assembly.
  • Carefully remove the printhead from the printer.
  • Check for any obvious damage or ink buildup.

Clean the Printhead Contacts

  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled or bottled water.
  • Gently clean the copper-colored electrical contacts on the printhead.
  • Clean the matching contacts inside the printer carriage.
  • Allow all components to dry for 5–10 minutes.

Update the Printer Firmware

If the printer reaches the Home screen:

  • Select Setup.
  • Select Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  • Choose Update the Printer.
  • Install any available firmware updates.

Hi @ESAMSHELTON

Thank you for responding.

I regret to hear that the issue remains unresolved. However, before considering a printhead replacement. I kindly request that you perform a factory reset on the printer and then check whether the issue persists.
