HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer series - H711
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am so frustrated.  My officejet 6600 keeps going offline when not used for several days.  Not using it for several days happens frequently because this is at a part time job and often I'm not there for several days.  When I return and try to print something, once again is it offline.  I end up wasting 30 minutes to sometimes an hour to get it going again.  Today, I can't even get it going again.  HP Print Doctor is telling me it can't fix it.  In the past that was my only option to get it going.   What the heck is going on?

Hi @d3d1,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with your HP OfficeJet Printer showing offline. Don't worry I'll be really glad to help you with this.

Let's start off by performing a hard reset on the printer, router, computer and other devices on the same network.

The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.

1. Press the Power button on the printer to turn it off.

2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

3. Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.

4. Turn off the computer.

5. Wait for 30 seconds.

6. Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.

7. Wait for 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready

8. Turn the computer back on.

9. Wait for the computer to reload

10. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

11. Turn the printer back on.

Let’s start by assigning a static IP address to the printer. Here are the steps:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says, “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says, “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
  • Restart the printer and then router once done.

Once done, perform a clean install on the printer as suggested below:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control Panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control Panel – Devices and Printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now, click  http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL41850/mp-108845-4/OJ6600_1315-1.exe to download and install the updated printer software.
  • Connect the USB cable only when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to setup the printer.

I found a quicker solution than uninstalling etc. I have to do this every once in a while, but it works.

I go to the printer, and on the screen I choose the home screen, scroll to the right to setup. Then choose network then network wizard. Then I follow the prompts to make it find my router again. Once that completes I can print wirelessly again.

There may be something wrong with the printer losing it's connection, becaus I find I occasionly find the printer "offline" again. BUt this fixes it fairly quickly so I can go ahead and print.

I wish I could help with this answer, but I need sympathy trying to talk my 92 year old mother in-law through how to get her printer working again.  Sadly, she is not as sharp as she was at 82 and we are getting nowhere.  She's already been scammed by one phone scammer. So , I'll wander around looking for an easy fix.  Now that I think about it, I'm getting too old for this too.   Sorry for my interruption.

Old guy.
