My client acquired a new HP Laserjet 4003dn recently to be installed on a computer running Windows 7 SP1 64 bit. The current offline driver, HPEasyStart-16.2.1-LJ4001-4004_UW_54_4_5341_Webpack, from the HP site installs the printer as HP Laserjet Pro 4001 4002 4003 without the functionality of duplex (automatic doubled sided printing).
I can't use HP Smart Setup because the printer is in a remote place without good internet coverage.
Where can I find an updated offline driver for the HP Laserjet 4003dn without using HP Smart software so that I can download it from my computer and then take it and install it on my client's computer?
Thanks

Hi @psb-ug,
Welcome to HP Support Community!
We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊
To resolve the issue with the HP LaserJet Pro 4003dn printer not supporting duplex printing on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit, here's a step-by-step guide to obtain and install the correct offline driver:
Steps to Download and Install the Correct Offline Driver
-
Visit the Official HP Driver Page:
- Go to the HP LaserJet Pro 4003dn Driver Downloads page.
-
Select the Correct Operating System:
- Scroll down and manually select your OS as Windows 7 (64-bit) if it’s not auto-detected.
- Note: HP has officially ended support for Windows 7 drivers as of November 1, 2022, but legacy drivers are still available.
-
Download the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD):
- Under the Driver-Universal Print Driver section, download the “HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6”.
- This driver supports advanced features like automatic duplex printing when configured correctly.
-
Install the Driver Manually (Offline):
- Transfer the downloaded
.exe
file to the Windows 7 PC using a USB drive. - Run the installer and choose “Traditional Mode” during installation.
- When prompted to select a printer, choose “Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname” and enter the printer’s IP address.
- After installation, go to Devices and Printers > Printer Properties > Device Settings and ensure “Duplex Unit” is set to Installed.
- Transfer the downloaded
Additional Tips
-
If the printer is still not showing duplex options, go to:
- Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Right-click Printer > Printing Preferences > Finishing tab, and enable Print on both sides (Duplex).
-
Avoid using HP Easy Start or HP Smart for this setup, as they require internet access and may not offer full offline support for legacy OS
