Recently, the orange error light has been blinking on my HP LaserJet Pro M15w. Since there is no place on the machine to display specifically what is wrong, I'm not sure what the problem is. I have turned off and back on the machine after 60 seconds. I have checked to make sure there are no paper jams. I have checked to make sure all orange shipping tags are off of the toner cartridge. The only thing that has changed recently was that I had replaced my toner cartridge. I have double-checked and verified that I have the right one (48A black). The cartridge has been taken out and put back in to ensure it's placed properly.

The error light will not go away. Any time I go to print, it runs for a few seconds, and then does nothing.

Hi @AcadAdmin

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details clearly. I understand the concern with the orange error light blinking on your HP LaserJet Pro M15w after replacing the toner. Since the printer does not have a display panel, the blinking light is its way of indicating an issue. Let’s go through the recommended steps to resolve this:

Check the Cartridge Installation

  • Power off the printer.
  • Remove the toner cartridge and gently rock it side to side to distribute the toner evenly.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it is seated properly.
  • Close the access door securely.

Verify Toner Authenticity

  • Ensure you are using a genuine HP 48A Black toner cartridge.
  • Non-genuine or defective toners can trigger the error light.

Run Diagnose & Fix from HP App

  • Open the HP App on your computer or mobile device.
  • Select your printer, then go to Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the guided steps to automatically detect and resolve issues.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • In the HP App, go to Advanced Settings > Printer Update.
  • Install any available updates to ensure compatibility with the new cartridge.

Reset the Printer

  • Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Summary:
The blinking orange error light usually indicates a cartridge or printer setup issue. By reseating the cartridge, confirming it is genuine, running Diagnose & Fix in the HP App, and updating firmware, the issue can often be resolved. If the light persists after these steps, the HP App’s Diagnose & Fix will provide the most accurate guidance tailored to your printer.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
