Laserjet M140we
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everyone,
There is a light on and I don't know what it means. It's an orange exclamation point. It's not a connection problem, nor a paper or ink problem. Everything is ok. Can anyone help me?

Hi @RMARTINS10,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

That orange exclamation-point light is the Attention light on the HP LaserJet MFP M140we. It means the printer has detected an error condition that needs attention; it does not necessarily mean there is a connection, paper, or toner problem.

Since you have already checked the obvious items, I would start with the printer's control panel:

  1. Check the printer display for an error code or message. The M140we can show codes such as Er/01, Er/02, Er/03, Er/04–Er/06, Er/07, Er/11, Er/14, Er/17, or Er/26, and the code identifies what the Attention light is reporting.
  2. If there is no specific message, press the Start Copy/Resume button once and check whether the printer provides any additional indication or returns to the ready state.
  3. If the light remains on and there is no obvious error, perform an HP printer reset:
    • Turn the printer off. If it does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
    • Wait 60 seconds
    • Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
    • Turn the printer back on.

If the orange exclamation mark comes back, tell us exactly what is shown on the printer's display at the same time. If possible, also post a photo of the control panel with the light on.

That information is important because the same Attention light is used for several different conditions, including paper-feed problems, cartridge issues, internal errors, and HP+ connection/account issues.
