Original Cartridge Output

ONLY 1,100 PAGES PRINTED FROM ORIGINAL CARTRIDGE
Purchased in early April 2016 - this seems to be VERY POOR PERFORMANCE for this type of printer. It's being used for home business purposes - mostly documents; some pages including photos. Is it common place to ship new products with ONLY STARTER CARTRIDGES which will NOT stand up to the suggested number of pages.
When speaking with the HP representative on the phone at time of purchase, I specifically inquired about this issue. He told me that NO it is NOT the case that the cartridge would be only a starter unit and that I should expect full and superior performance when purchasing Original HP products.
This has NOT been my experience to date. - Just saying...

From its specs:

Introductory cartridge included; ~700 pages based on ISO/IEC 19752 and continuous print. Replacement cartridge average declared yield ~1500 pages based on ISO/IEC 19752 and continuous print. We (users) expect can only get around 80% to 85% of those numbers or from 1,200 pages to 1,275 pages if CONTINUOUS PRINT (non stop, non idle) because anytime printer starts it will consume a lot of inks/toners.

From my calculation, I can see 1,100 pages with a mixture of images sometimes is acceptable.
