The tray identifier codes used by the different Page Description Languages (PCL5, PCL XL, PostScript), even on the same device, may be totally different.

Having said that, the values above 256 may (I don't know) be the same for all PDLs, used as an alternative to single-byte PDL-specific value sets?

Did the test files I furnished yield any meaningful results?

Afraid the last stuff you posted didn't help. I haven't used PCL in my programs for over 10 years. Forgot what little I knew.

However, your comments did point me away from dead ends and blind alleys.

Thanks for the help.

The purpose of the test files was to confirm (or not) that the tray identifier codes (259 and 258) which you suggested did indeed select the requisite trays when used with a particular "personality" (Page Description Language); they don't require you to have PCL knowledge.

I provided PCL5 and PCL6 (PCL XL) test files, because I was slightly unsure which PDL you (or rather your printer driver) is using (although you've also mentioned use of PostScript drivers, which I don't have test files for).
