PCL XL error, Subsystem: IllegalFontData, File Name: cheettext.c Line Number: 1453 Started: seems like right after Windows 10 update. Continuously printing the error message, seems like the message is in a continuous loop. Can't get it to stop. Reloaded HP software 3 times, didn't help. Tried reloading just HP Firmware for my printer, didn't help. Tried many different configurations of printer on/off and connected/disconnected, didn't help. @ wits end. Any ideas???? Be gentle, I'm 70 years old and can only do the basics.

Hello KC185,
It sounds like you may have a document with a character the printer cannot understand stuck in the print spooler.
To resolve this,
Go to:
After that, download and run the Print and Scan Doctor tool, this should clear the print spooler.

That did it, thanks. I would have bet $100 that I had tried that procedure twice before, but obviously I did something wrong in my procedure. Thanks again. On a technical question, how can a print spooler have a character it does't understand or know about? Inquisitive minds want to know.

Hello KC185,
It would not necessarily mean the print spooler, you were getting the error from the printer itself. When you print a text document you're sending that information to the printer, some of that information that gets sent includes embedded fonts and images. When you send a font to the printer that it doesn't recognize you get this error, it's essentially the same as when you're on foreign websites and see square boxes instead of text. When this happens, it's because it was typed in a font that currently isn't installed on your computer. It's the same thing to the printer, except it just doesn't print a page of square boxes, and gives you this error instead.
I hope that explains a little better.
