Hello everyone,

I recently got a LaserJet P2015dn for free and it works really well. I found a strange issue with the newest PCL 6 drivers though; the printer prints a page that says "PCL XL error Subsystem KERNEL Error IllegalTag Operator 0x29 Position 0". I have Windows 11 Pro 25H2 and the printer is connected via USB.

I played around with other available drivers for a while and I found out the following:

- Default Windows 11 PS UPD drivers: Everything works but large/complex print jobs make the printer hang at processing the task (blinking page LED). Also, some characters are printed incorrectly (question mark instead of the actual character).

- PCL 5.9.0.18326 (from upd-pcl5-x64-5.9.0.18326.exe): Works well but doesn't have FastRes 1200 option (maybe its too new for that kind of driver)

- PCL 6.3.0.21179 (from upd-pcl6-x64-6.3.0.21178.exe): Works well in every print job I tested. Doesn't hang like the default windows PS UPD driver too and no issues with characters.

- Lastest PS UPD driver from HP website: Same issues as the included Windows 11 PS UPD driver.

I'd appreciate some help on getting the latest PCL 6 driver from HP to work with my printer. If that's not possible, maybe someone could help me with sending a bug report to HP developers.

As this product is end of support life, HP is not going to dedicate any resources to writing drivers for it.

You state that:

Default Windows 11 PS UPD drivers: Everything works but large/complex print jobs make the printer hang at processing the task (blinking page LED). Also, some characters are printed incorrectly (question mark instead of the actual character).

There is no default UPD driver, if you are using a default windows driver, you are likely getting an IPP driver and support with that driver on older printers can be problematic. Or you downloaded the PS driver and overlooked that.

PCL 6.3.0.21179 (from upd-pcl6-x64-6.3.0.21178.exe): Works well in every print job I tested. Doesn't hang like the default windows PS UPD driver too and no issues with characters.

So my suggestion would be to use that driver. Also note that HP states that the P2015 is fully supported by the UPD driver sets in either PCL or Post Script.
