Hello, I have a 9125 EHP OfficeJet pro. I’ve tried four times entering the the pen. However, I continue to get an invalid pin entry notification on the mobile app. Does anyone have a workaround for this? I really appreciate any support.

Hi @Gingersnapschi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it feels when you’re excited to set up your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e, and that PIN keeps getting rejected no matter how carefully you enter it. Let’s get this sorted out so you can start printing without the headache.

Why This Happens

The “Invalid PIN” error usually occurs during HP app setup when:

  • The PIN has expired (it’s valid for only 2 minutes after being displayed on the printer screen).
  • There’s a typo (PINs are case-sensitive and must match exactly).
  • The printer is not in pairing mode, or the app is using cached data.

Steps to Fix It

  1. Generate a Fresh PIN
    • On your printer’s control panel, go to: Setup → Network Settings → Wi-Fi Direct → Show Wi-Fi Direct PIN.
    • Make sure you enter it within 2 minutes in the HP app.

  2. Clear HP App Cache
    • On your mobile device:
      • iOS: Delete and reinstall the HP app.
      • Android: Go to Settings → Apps → HP app → Storage → Clear Cache.

  3. Restart Printer & Mobile Device
    • Power cycle both devices to refresh the connection.

  4. Use Wi-Fi Direct Instead of PIN
    • If the PIN keeps failing, try connecting via Wi-Fi Direct
      • On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings, select the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct name (e.g., DIRECT-xx-HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e), and enter the PIN there.
    • Then return to the HP app and complete the setup.

  5. Update Firmware
  6. Reset Network Settings (Last Resort)
    • On the printer:
Setup → Network Settings → Restore Network Defaults
    • Then retry the setup with the HP app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
