i think my laptop software is too old to download driver for hp deskjet 2600. It says something about being able to do it by mobile HOW?

I've not seen XP for a lot of years - in so much that I remember the OS, it should be able to download and install printer software.  I think there was general requirement for XP having Service Pack 3.  ??

Having said that, know that the printer software for XP supports XP 32-bit only (not 64-bit).

If you have not done so - and after you have installed the printer software - consider updating the Firmware.
