I have a HP Deskjet 3524. Is it possible to only use the black colour? I only want to print black. Can I just buy the black cartridge instead of the 3 other colours to use black print? The other 3 colours are empty but I don't need these. And second question: where can I find the right settings to only use black printing? I can't see the option to do that in my print settings.

OfficeJet, DeskJet, etc., are all inkjet printers. Only LaserJet printers are not. You can see a list of HP's inkjet printers at this link:

It really doesn't matter which printer you have either, they all typically require ink to be present in all cartridges to allow any printing at all, except for some LaserJet printers, which will automatically revert to Black only printing if one of the other toner colors runs out.

Typically inkjet printers require that all the ink cartridges have ink and are operable in order to print anything at all. You can usually set the printer options in the print driver to print in black only and often you can manually select the black print only option in the print options when you go to print, but you still need all the ink cartridges with ink installed and operating.
