I have a P3010 that has stopped correctly detecting tray 2 when printing. If I set the printer to auto-select the tray, it defaults to tray 1 and stays in an error state until paper is inserted in the bypass tray, even though there is paper in tray 2.
I've tried a few things that seemed to be likely answers, but no luck so far. Under Paper Handling, Tray 1 is set to any size and type, while Tray 2 is set to mid-weight letter. Under Tray behavior, I tried for the options that seemed most likely to allow it to move to a new tray if the current one was empty. Use Selected Tray is set to First. Use Another Tray is set to Enabled. At present, I can only get it to print from tray 2 by disabling auto-selection in Print Preferences and requiring it to take only from tray 2.

>> ... Tray 2 is set to mid-weight letter ...
This implies that the printer believes it has paper of paper size = Letter and paper type = MidWeight.
If (in the preferences for the Print job), you are selecting paper source = Printer Auto-Select, then the printer will issue the tray 1 prompt if the print job does not also specify those size and type values.
