I ran into trouble trying to print a 4x6 card by inserting it sideways, as it simply slipped down into the duplex tray. Apparently, widthwise it isn't long enough to engage. An undocumented feature.
I learned you have to put the card in lengthwise. Then it worked just fine.

The minimum size media for LaserJet printers has been 3x5 inches fed short edge first for many years.
Supported sizes and media orientations are generally found in the User Guide for the machine.
