Product: color Laser Jet Pro MFP M281fdw

I installed just the black ink cartridge leaving the empty color cartridges in the printer. Direct the printer to print in black and white only.  When I try to print it says. Printer busy. Do I have to take out the empty colors

I do not believe that you can print with empty cartridges installed, nor can you print by removing color cartridges.
