Hi , I am having the problem with the carriage cannot move error and I cannot even move the carriage myself with my hand inside the printer to check the seating of the cartridges. I've tried numerous resets, unlpugs etc. and I also cannot see a back arrow for 4x. Can you please help? Thank you!

Thank you for responding,

It's good to be acknowledged, as long as we are magic-less people 😉

That said, I'm afraid the only option available via the team in the US of A, is to replace the printer with a new one, as a 6 yrs old printer would be considered obsolete and hence the parts to repair would be unavailable.

I suggest you check with the local tech/store, or even the HP website for 4th of July sale: Click here for details, I also suggest checking for printers with HP Instant Ink compatibility to save on ink as well: Click here for FAQs.

I'm afraid we've reached the end of the line,

Although, it's been a pleasure chatting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

@sjons

Thanks for the reply,

I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Try to move the carriage manually and check if it moves, if the carriage doesn't move I'm afraid that this could be a hardware issue.

If the carriage is moving, use this link: https://hp.care/2lVH2w2 for troubleshooting.

If the issue persists, I have sent you a private message, for more details that cannot be shared in a public post.

Can you please check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.

Have a great day!

The error message is misleading.  I was getting it because unbeknownst to me, paper had jammed at the extreme right hand side of the carriage mechanism.  When I removed it, the problem was solved
