Print on cardstock

I want to print on cardstock with my hp envy 6500e printer.  When I click on Printer Properties, I don't have an option to change paper.  Do I have to load a piece of cardstock in the back of the printer to get the cardstock option?

It sounds like the current print driver is using a "General Purpose" setting that hides specific media types like cardstock to prevent paper jams. Your HP ENVY 6000e series (which includes the 6500e) typically requires you to manually select the "Thick Paper" or "Cardstock" setting in the software to adjust the internal rollers for the heavier weight.

Load the cardstock correctly in the main tray

• Remove all plain paper from the main input tray at the bottom of the printer.
• Slide the paper width guides to their outermost positions.
• Insert a small stack of cardstock (up to 20 sheets) into the tray and snug the guides against the edge of the paper.

Access the hidden Paper Type settings in Windows

• Open the document you wish to print and click File, then Print, and select Printer Properties or Preferences.
• Click on the Paper/Quality tab at the top of the new window.
• Locate the Media or Paper Type dropdown menu and scroll down to select HP Cardstock or Thick Plain Paper.

Confirm the change on the printer hardware

• Look at the printer’s control panel (the light bar) or the HP Smart app on your computer after you close the tray.
• Click OK or Modify if a "Paper Size/Type" prompt appears on your screen to confirm it matches what you loaded.
• Press Print in your document application to start the job with the high-pressure roller settings.
