ENVY 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Wiindows 10 Pro X64

Small LAN no domain controler

I had the printer connected to a desktop via USB.  I wanted to be able to use it via a wireless connection.  I followed the instructions, including disconnecting the USB connection, but when the printer scanned for a network it could not find it.  My wireless router has two network names -- one for 2.4Ghz and the other for 5Ghz.  Both are visible to any wireless device.

I tried entering the name for a 2.4Ghz connection but the printer could not find it.

I let the utility upload the error log but it didn't find anything.

How do I troubleshoot this?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

The HP ENVY 4500 series only supports connections using 2.4GHz.

Let's restore the factory settings on the Printer:

1. Press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Status menu. 2. Press the button next to Settings to access the Wireless Settings menu. 3. Select Restore Defaults. 4. Confirm selection to restore defaults.

Once done:

1. Press the Wireless button from the printer control panel, and then select Settings. 2. Scroll to select Wireless Setup Wizard, and then press OK. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the wireless connection.

You can download and install the software from here:

>1. Press the Wireless button from the printer control panel
It lists the following:
HP: Not connected
SSID: N/A

MAC: .....

Hostname: .....

Settings               Turn Off

I pressed OK next to the Settings line:
Got: Wireless Turning Off...

Then the bottom line said:

Settings               Turn On

The printer searched for wireless networks and found nothing.  Back to the first screen.  No option to Restore Defaults.

However, it now saw my 2.4Ghz network.  Unfortunately, it asked for the password which is 13 hex characters.  Made a mistake and no way to recover.

After going back to clear the mistyped entry it could no longer find the network. Restarted a few times and it found the 2.4Ghz network.

Finally entered the 13 hex characters and it says it is connected.  Press the button next to print the report and got a blanik page.

The password is 26 hex digits.  It is connected to a machine via USB.  Why isn't there an app to run on the computer that supports wireless setup?

You can use the HP Smart App on your Computer to connect your Printer to it:

Ran the HP print and scan doctor.  It showed the printer but could not connect to it.

Finally connected the print back to USB and tried the utility.  Most of the functions do not work via USB.

Ordered a replacement printer/scanner -- not HP.
