Today my printer has started displaying the warning beneath a yellow warning triangle: “Printer Failure. If error repeats turn off and then on. Press OK to continue”
Needless to say, I have tried turning the printer on and off a few times, but to no avail. The printer will not print.
I only load the printer with black ink - it is running low, but not empty. I have also tried printing from different devices. The only thing I have successfully managed to print is a network test page (this suggests that the printer does have sufficient ink)
I am a bit stuck. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.
I understand that you have an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw and it displays a failure error stating "Printer Failure. If error repeats turn off and then on. Press OK to continue". The printer does not print from other devices too and was able to print a network test report. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
Did any hardware changes take place on the printer recently (like a cartridge replacement, paper jam, etc.)?
Did any software changes or updates happen on the printer?
Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
- Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
If the issue persists then please download and run the firmware update for your printer from a Windows computer. The firmware update can be downloaded and installed via this link.
You may download and run a firmware update from a Mac computer too via this link.
The printer needs to be restarted after the firmware is successful installed.
If the printer continues to display the error then I suggest you to reset the printer. I have sent you a private message with the reset steps.
I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Good luck! 🙂
