Lets make this real simple.  Go to the printer and from the control panel on the printer print a config page or network config report which will give you the ip address of the printer.  Now on your computer go to devices and printers and choose the item add printer, then local printer and on the next page click on the item create new port and in the drop down choose standard tcp/ip and then hit next.  Type in the ip address of the printer and make sure the box to query the printer and automatically select driveris checked and then choose next.  The computer will find the printer and load the correct drivers and setup the printer for you.  If that does not work, report back with what happened during installation (error messages, etc).

Hello @wakeel

Based on your description it seems like you are doing a USB connection (if not please reply to me then so I can send the network steps)

For USB do the following

Go to the service menu on the printer and then USB speed change that from high to full

Go back to service menu if you find HP smart install turn that off

Make sure that USB cable is less than 6ft

Make sure that USB cable goes from the back of the printer to the PC directly (no USB Hubs or something similar)

Go to devices and printers and then make sure that you dont see any printers with the name of this M401

While you are under devices and printer simply connect the USB cable

Windows has the USB plug n play that when a new USB device its detected it will go an look for a driver for the product and do the installation for you

You will notince that you will see a new item once its detected showing as unspecified

After a few minutes that unspecified item will move up to where the printers are and will show the M401 name on it

Make sure its selected as default and try to print something to that

Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
