HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I'm Calude from France.

I receive this error message from my printer "HP LaserJet MFP M281fdw((3FF759)-There's no more paper" even though my tray is loaded with the same compliant sheets as always.

I set it up, I also turned the printer off and on again after a minute, I also cleaned the feed drum... nothing works?

Have you encountered this problem and how did you fix it?

Best Regards

Calude

Hello @Calude, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw reports “There’s no more paper” even though the tray is loaded correctly, and you have already power-cycled the printer and cleaned the feed roller.

Please try the steps provided below:

1. Check and reload the paper stack

  1. Remove all paper from the input tray.
  2. Inspect the stack and remove any sheets that are: - Bent, wrinkled, torn, curled, or dusty
    - A different size or type than the rest
  3. Fan/flex the stack and tap it on a flat surface to align the edges.
  4. Reload the tray: - Load paper with the print‑side facing up (if applicable for your tray). - Do not overfill; stay within the tray’s capacity.
  5. Slide the paper width guides in so they just touch the stack (not bending the paper).
  6. Close the tray/cover and try printing again.

2. Verify paper settings on the computer

  1. Open the document and go to File > Print.
  2. Open Printer Properties / Preferences / Setup.
  3. Under Paper or Paper Quality: - Set Paper Type to match what is actually in the tray. - Set Paper Size correctly.
  4. Click OK, then Print and see if the error clears.

3. Reset the printer

  1. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer.
  2. Unplug the other end from the wall.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall, then into the printer.
  5. Turn it on (if it doesn’t start automatically) and try printing again.

4. Clean the paper pick/feed rollers

If the printer still reports no paper, the rollers might be slipping:

  1. Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord.
  2. Remove the tray and all paper.
  3. Access the bottom or rear area where the feed/pick rollers are (similar models use an access panel on the bottom or rear).
  4. Use a lint‑free cloth lightly dampened with distilled/filtered water: - Wring out excess water. - Wipe the entire rubber roller surface to remove dust and debris.
  5. Let the rollers dry for about 10 minutes.
  6. Reassemble: - Refit any access panel. - Put the printer upright. - Reload paper and adjust guides.
  7. Plug in and power on, then test print.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
