Hello,

I work in an Enterprise enviroment in a hospital.  Over the past few months we have had HP printers that go into secure mode and basically get locked down.  A password gets put on it and we have to do a hard reset( power on, hold the right arrow and x button at the same time).  We know how to reset it but I'm trying to find out why so we can stop it.  Yesterday about 200 printers all went into secure mode on campus.  Any help would be great.

Need better description of exactly what is happening and the exact error message, but it could be the HP Secure options detecting network behaviour that appears to be hacking and is then locking the units up. Or if you do not have administrative passwords applied to the units someone could be applying a passwords either to make your life miserable or to aid in future hacking.

If you find the information provided useful or solves your problems, help other users find the solution easier by marking my post as an accepted solution. Clicking "yes" on "was this reply helpful" also increases the chances that this solution will help others.

Hello,

Thanks for your help.  It is basically what you said. As soon as our team made it a major incident the network team said they were using a new application that does a network scan.  We tested they theory by having them scan just one area that had printers that were working properly and it locked the printers down.  So our fix was to add password and then turn on the https in networking tab in the web page.
