Hi @SEWilleke,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw is showing printer and scanner errors (such as 13 and 17) and not allowing printing or scanning. Let’s go through a few checks.

Check for Paper Obstructions

Turn the printer off.

Open the toner access door and rear door.

Remove any jammed or torn paper.

Check the input tray and output area.

Close all doors securely and turn the printer on.

Reseat Toner Cartridges

Turn off the printer.

Open the toner access door.

Remove each toner cartridge.

Reinstall the cartridges firmly into their slots.

Close the door and power the printer on.

Note: Improper cartridge seating can trigger startup hardware errors.

Reset the Printer

Turn the printer on.

From the control panel, open Setup > Service.

Select Restore Defaults.

Confirm the reset and allow the printer to restart.

CAUTION: This removes stored network and scan settings.

Check Scanner Area

Turn off the printer.

Lift the scanner lid.

Ensure no packing material or debris is blocking the scanner bar.

Gently close the scanner lid.

Turn the printer back on.

Update Firmware

Open HP Smart on your computer.

Select the printer.

Open Printer Settings > Advanced Settings.

Check for firmware updates.

Install any available updates.

I hope this helps.
